(Dreams at sea)

Thursday, November 03, 2011

Last night the weather was crazy and it was very hard to sleep. When we’re crossing the gulf I always wedge myself in between the wall and the bed by putting pillows or blankets under the outboard side of the mattress. I also use my headphones as earplugs because more than the rolling, the noise from the tires and chains outside keeps me awake. Yesterday as I slept, I had the most ridiculous dream – I dreamt that I was in a bedroom and I heard a bunch of noise behind me, and when I turned around, there was a sea otter on the bed. It had gotten in through the window. It took several minutes to wake up from that; I struggled to wake especially because I was convinced that the otter was real and I was going to have to pick it up and get it out of my room. I can’t believe the dreams I have out here sometimes.
