Being at home was great, and one of my favorite moments was getting to ride along with my friends on a ship job in Carquinez Strait on a glorious sunny NorCal winter day.
Now I’m back at work, and I have a trainee mate on watch with me. It’s strange to be teaching someone my job! It makes me realize how much I’ve learned myself. The other night, when the clock struck midnight on New Year’s Day, we were passing ten miles off West Caicos island, and we saw fireworks bursting above three different towns in the distance. We had a nice quiet New Year moment of reflection in the dark, while the rummies on shore were most likely partying their faces off.
